Placebo affects teenagers in Laugardalshöll
British rock band Placebo played to a packed audience last night with local indie pop band Maus opening up. The venue was not sold out, due in part to a mistake made by the Og Vodafone company who thought they had sold the concert out and then realized that there were 1500 tickets left. Og Vodafone was responsible for selling tickets to the show in their outlet stores around Iceland.

For fans of the band, the show was a glowing success. Singer Brian Molko, whose provocative gender ambiguity recalls early Bowie, practiced his thousand yard stare on the mostly teenage audience throughout the show. The band, usually a three piece, was augmented by several musicians who filled in guitar and keyboard parts when Molko was too busy striking a pose to actually play his guitar. (To their credit, they closed out the show as a three piece, and they sounded just as good as they did with the extras.)

Molko's guitar seemed not to be plugged in during certain parts of the show, an issue that he took up with his guitar tech, who (uncharacteristically of this job) was female.

The band played all of their radio hits and Molko stopped the show at one point to introduce the next songs, which he said would be "future hits, future classics." While this statement may be open to argument, Placebo seemed to satisfy the crowd for the moment.

Maus, who opened the show, played a solid set of tracks from their album Musick, some brand new tracks, and some older songs that have become classics with their Icelandic audience
